After waiting the requisite 24 hours before hooking up the plumbing and getting our fawnsay new granite wet, it was time to hook up our also fawnsay new faucet.
My wife and I are both sick of the moderately expensive garbage from ho me centers, so we decided to spend a chunk of change and get a good one. We went to a Ferguson plumbing showroom to check out some options. When I redid our master bathroom six years ago, we used them for all our fixtures and wer e very happy with their service, and the stuff we bought from them.
Much to my surprise and delight, my wife picked out the cheapest version of the style of faucet we wanted. We spent approximately three RallyMetros on a Mirabelle faucet. It would’ve only been 2-1/2 RallyMetros, but the boss wanted brushed stainless instead of chrome.
I’d never heard of Mirabelle. The salesman told us it’s Ferguson’s private label manufacturer. I didn’t check if he was telling the truth about that, because I don’t care.
The faucet is really nice. The valve handle is metal, and has a nice action on it. The sprayer nozzle button also has a really nice action. The water pressure is really good too , so much so I won’t be messing with the restrictor.
I didn’t take any installation pictures, because frankly I just wanted to slam it in and be done with it. There were a couple things that impressed me. The first was the nut that attaches it to the bottom of the counter. It has a brass thread insert, but that’s pressed into a big chunky plastic nut, that you can wrap your whole fist around and apply plenty of torque with no wrench. The second thing that impressed me, was the supply lines were built right in. No need for secondary supply hoses , just attach the faucet directly to the shut off valves under the sink.
Overall, I’m quite pleased with this purchase.
Yes, the faucet is off center. We did that on purpose.

Looks great. Man, I tell ya I love our faucet still 2 years later. I use it easily 100 times a day, especially on a weekend.

Looks like a nice sleek product.

Like you said yesterday, you touch it so often that it's worth spending some money on.

Yeah, I'm definitely digging it.

Nice! Faucets are important. Just being down the sink in one bathroom for a few days while I was putting in the new counter (and faucet) was surprisingly inconvenient . I can imagine how much worse a kitchen would be.

We have a sink of similar size and depth, but it’s two sections. If I had it to do over again, I’d get a single like yours.

Well no, it’s not a drill it’s a faucet. It’s kinda hard to confuse those two.

I wanted a single, my wife wanted a divided one. Thankfully my buddy bought a house with a divided one. She tried it once, and told me I was right (how often does THAT happen!?!)

It was a pain. Thankfully we were only without a sink for two days during the main construction, and now this one day for the granite sealer and adhesive to cure.

Our faucet is off center as well
We got the divided sink. We both like it. I think the key is the proportion it’s divided in instead of 50/50

We initially did it, because the sink doesn't QUITE line up with the center of the window, but we've been liking it this way.
The off center division is definitely superior to the 50/50 ones. We like our big barn of a sink :)

The one thing my wife admits that I got right is when I insisted on a single sink in our old house when we remodeled the kitchen. As the person who washes the pots and pans I knew better. Now our new house has a divided one and we both hate it.

We’ve replaced the kitchen faucet twice now. The ones with the integrated hoses are so much easier.
I like the deep sink with lots of space. We have a two chambered, and we really like it because we’ve adapted our routine to take advantage of it. Whether one or two, the important things seems to be make it large and deep. And lucky for me, we have one with the drains pushed toward the back so I can roll under better and be able to do dishes (yay me!).

Gorgeous!

nice! I understand how momentous the occasion really is!
That’s a great idea with the offset, I wish I had the foresight to do so. I also learned that the box store hardware is not as nice as the stuff available from specialty shops...even if the brand is the same. At first I thought it was marketing jive, but talking to plumbers I found out it’s not.

3 months, that’s how long I went without. Luckily t he bar in the basement has a big sink so I was able to use that for dishes. Using the bathroom sink would have been awful as it’s a tiny pedestal . But no running water and sink is something you don’t consider until you go without.

the sink in my last house didn;t quite line up with the window and I was pretty pissed cuz I specifically brought that up with the cabinet guy, and even pointed out that his plan wasn’ t going to have it align, yet he still didn’ t make it align.

Well done. I can’t wait to change out our hideous countertops. But right now if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. (Jeep is exception)
Who would pick out a mulch pile pattern? Must have been on clearance as no one wanted it.
I’ll also be spending many rallymetros worth in getting my jeep going. Need to build rocker protection. I should have modified my last ones instead of selling.

That’s infuriating!
I should fire my cabinet guy, he’s an incompetent boob! :)
I had to move the cabinets over an inch. I hadn't accounted for the window sill on the perpendicular wall

check out the photo, Thats how I wanted t to be done. For some reason the cabinet guy did not want to put the panel on the left wall. I didn’ t want his opinion , I just wanted him to install the kitchen as I had designed it. My wife and I had discussed this, I had built it in Sketc h Up to show her how it looked and we both agreed to do it that way. After I went to work he told her it was a bad idea and convinced her not to do it. She calls me up at work to say we’re not doing it. OOOO I wanted to slap that guy out the window and across the street. As you can see, he did what I said in the end but fuck him.

HAHAHA! Mulch pile is an excellent description of .... whatever that is. I’m sure the developer got a screaming deal buying a bunch of that crap in bulk.
I’m looking forward to seeing that XJ back in action!

See now, that drain thing is one of those little details I never would’ve thought of for wheel chair users. You must see the world in an entirely different way.

To be perfectly honest, I initially came up with the idea to offset the faucet when I had to move the cabinets over an inch to account for a window sill I had forgotten about when I designed the cabinets. All of the sudden, the sink wasn’t QUITE centered on the window. We tried it with our old faucet which we’ve had hooked up to use with our temp counters for weeks, and we’ve really been liking it.
Oh yeah, it’s a big difference in quality. The home center stuff is total junk, and while it is cheaper, it’s still not exactly cheap. I think we paid $180 for our old faucet at Home Dumpo, and it was a piece of crap from the word go. The new one is a little over twice the price, but it’s money well spent.

It’s funny, in the first several years of wheelchair use, I would sometimes run up against an obstacle in a place I’d previously been and think, “hey, I don’t remember that being there”. It was weird in those moments to actually observe my brain recalibrating before my very eyes.
My family and my wife (and now my daughter) quietly recalibrated as well. I would totally trust my sister to scout out a place and report back to me, whereas a stranger’s judgement I just wouldn’t trust.

That makes sense to me. I don’t have the first freakin’ clue what to look for.
Well, that’s not true, I know stairs bad, ramps good ... I don’t have the second clue what to look for though :)

it’s funny because I was so impressed with the attention to detail and felt weird I was so impressed by the pattern on spray mode. At least I’m not alone noticing these things

Nope , definitely not.
